Adding Flavour to your FODMAP-Friendly Dishes with Casa de Sante
It’s a complaint I hear from clients time and time again … “Sharon I’m struggling to add flavour while following a low FODMAP diet – everything tastes so damn bland without onion and garlic!!!” I feel you peeps. It’s true, without the use of certain herbs and spices, it’s very easy to fall into the trap of plain steamed veggies, grains and tofu for dinner every night. The good news? It doesn’t HAVE to be this way! There are several ways you can add flavour to a FODMAP-Friendly vegan diet.
Introducing Casa de Sante to save the day!! Casa de Sante’s range of FODMAP-friendly dressings, stocks, spices, salsas, and pantry staples are designed to add flavour to your dishes, while ensuring your tummy (and tastebuds) remain happy! I use their stock and spices daily when preparing my lunches and dinners for the week. A little goes a long way with these products, so you’re really getting the most bang for your buck too (always important).
They also have a fantastic range of granola and snack bars, which are free of nasties like high-fructose corn syrup. A 3.30pm life saver! Their products are all FODMAP Friendly certified and Dietitian-approved. Further, music to a fussy nutritionist’s ears, all Casa de Sante products are small batch, artisan and made with the finest ingredients (they contain NO additives, preservatives or fillers).
The company was founded by Onyx Adegbola, MD PhD, a physician scientist and former pharmaceutical executive. Dr Adegbola received her PhD at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed her medical training at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. A mother of triplets (!!!), she has observed the effectiveness of the low FODMAP diet firsthand in her own family.
As you guys probably recall from my previous posts, FODMAP Friendly is a world leading organisation, assisting people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) to manage their symptoms while adhering to a low FODMAP diet. They are based in Melbourne, but assist people worldwide with simple and practical tools that can be used by dietitians, nutritionists, the food industry and the general public. These tools help make daily life simple and enjoyable while on a low FODMAP diet.
The feedback I’ve received from all my clients who have sampled Casa de Sante’s products (vegans, vegos, omnivores, and even young folk) is incredibly positive and so I feel confident recommending them to IBS sufferers. The wonderful thing about adding flavour to your low-FODMAP meals is that you don’t feel as though you’re missing out, and everyone in the family (even those lucky folks who don’t suffer IBS) can still enjoy your FODMAP-friendly meals, so no need to create yourself a separate plate. Social support and more pleasant tasting meals are factors shown to increase likelihood of dietary adherence. Sticking to a low FODMAP diet throughout the elimination phase minimises your likelihood of ‘slipping up’ and the resulting digestive distress.
My favourite Casa de Sante product is there LemonAID, Low FODMAP Ayurvedic Digestive Drink. Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, I add a small amount to my end-of-day tea to calm my stomach after a day of eating, when symptoms of bloating and digestive upset tend to be at their worst. I find it helps me get a quality night’s sleep (not to mention adding a lovely lemony kick to my lemongrass and ginger tea!)
So what are you waiting for? Head to Casa de Sante’s website to check out their vast range of products and let me know how you go if you decide to try something!
Happy flavour-adding! 🙂
